FREECOVER to Unveil Strategy for a Circular REE Market
The FREECOVER project is excited to announce its participation in the upcoming EU Knowledge Valorisation Talk on October 14, 2025. This vital online event, themed ‘New ways to manage intellectual assets and bring research to market,’ provides an ideal platform for us to present our groundbreaking work in the sustainable recycling of Rare Earth Elements (REEs).
REEs are the backbone of modern technology, essential for everything from wind turbines and electric vehicles to smartphones. However, their primary extraction is resource-intensive and geographically concentrated, posing significant environmental and supply chain risks. FREECOVER directly addresses this challenge by developing eco-friendly hydrometallurgical processes to recover and recycle these critical materials.
Our project is pioneering the use of advanced technologies like ionic liquid-based extraction and membrane filtration to create a closed-loop system for REEs. This innovation is not just a scientific achievement; it is a strategic intellectual asset that can bolster Europe’s strategic autonomy and drive the green transition.
At the talk, we will share our comprehensive strategy for bringing this crucial research from the laboratory to the industrial market. We will discuss:
- How we are protecting and leveraging our unique, environmentally responsible recycling processes.
- Our roadmap for scaling up these technologies to create a viable, circular economy for critical raw materials in Europe.
- The economic and environmental value proposition our project offers to industry partners and policymakers.
This session is essential for stakeholders in the renewable energy, electronics, and mobility sectors, as well as anyone interested in the future of sustainable resource management. Join us to learn how FREECOVER is building a market for recycled REEs, securing Europe’s green future.
