O1.1 Develop biocompatible ionic liquids (ILs) from natural sources.
O1.2 Characterize the thermophysical properties of these ILs.
O1.3 Create Supported Ionic Liquid Membranes (SILMs) for enhanced separation efficiency.

Lead Beneficiary: University of Ljubljana (UL)

O2.1 Define the REE coordination properties in ILs through structural and thermodynamic analysis.
O2.2 Identify the best IL composition for liquid-liquid extraction.
O2.3 Optimize the performance of SILMs for REE separations.

Lead Beneficiary: Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB)

O3.1 Develop natural adsorbents (PYP/ZEO) with controlled properties.
O3.2 Characterize their adsorption efficiency for toxic metals (TMs).
O3.3 Optimize adsorbent regeneration methods to extend their usability.
O3.4 Repurpose treated adsorbents as catalysts for wastewater treatment.

Lead Beneficiary: AERIS Tecnologías Ambientales (AERIS)

O4.1 Design a demonstrator module for REE and metal adsorption.
O4.2 Validate the REE separation process for industrial applications.
O4.3 Conduct an economic analysis and Life Cycle Assessment (LCA).
O4.4 Engage with stakeholders and policymakers to facilitate implementation.

O5.1 Maximize the visibility and impact of FREECOVER’s results.
O5.2 Provide training and knowledge exchange for early-stage researchers (ESRs).
O5.3 Engage public, investors, researchers, and SMEs through dedicated events and media.
