FREECOVER Science Café at UAB

The Hidden Metals of the Green Transition

FREECOVER invites the public to a Science Café at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB), offering an open and informal discussion on one of the key challenges of the green transition: Rare Earth Elements (REEs).

Titled “The Hidden Metals of the Green Transition—Can We Recycle Them Better?”, the event will take place on Thursday, 22 January 2026, at 19.30, at El Cau – Bar at Vila Universitària (UAB). The discussion will be led by Prof. Andrea Melchior (University of Udine).

During the Science Café, participants will explore why REEs are essential for clean technologies, how the FREECOVER project is developing greener recycling routes—including eco-friendly ionic liquids and natural adsorbents—and what sustainable recovery means for Europe’s strategic autonomy, environmental sustainability, and jobs.

This public engagement activity reflects FREECOVER’s commitment to bringing science closer to society and fostering dialogue on circular economy solutions.

📍 Location: El Cau – Bar at Vila Universitària, UAB
📅 Date & Time: Thursday, 22 January 2026 | 19.30
