From PhD to Research Manager

FREECOVER Masterclass

On 26 September 2025, the FREECOVER consortium hosted its first internal Masterclass seminar, titled “From PhD to Research Manager: Grant Writing, Leadership & Project Management”, at the Università di Udine, Campus dei Rizzi, Aula Gialla.

The event, part of FREECOVER’s MSCA Staff Exchanges activities, was opened by Prof. Andrea Melchior (UNIUD, FREECOVER Coordinator), who welcomed participants and emphasized the importance of capacity building in sustainable research.

The seminar was delivered by Dr. Leonardo Piccinetti (SITES), who shared his 25+ years of expertise in EU programme management, sustainability, and innovation. The sessions covered career pathways in Research Management, grant writing essentials, project design and risk management, and strategies for effective communication and dissemination. Participants also engaged in practical exercises on proposal writing, leadership skills, and building a personal professional brand.

This masterclass equipped young researchers with the tools to transition from academic pathways to research management roles, aligning with FREECOVER’s mission to foster excellence in sustainability and Rare Earth Element innovation.
